Bonne
Année pour les 26 ans du MFT !
Le MFT a fêté ses 25 ans d’existence chez Chez Bob à Armadale en décembre
2002 !
For 2003, MFT is presenting two productions with a modern theme in May and
a classic theme in September.
2002 Season
MAY - C’est
une femme du monde et Les pavés de l’ours by Georges Feydeau
This wonderful double was directed by Feydeau-phile Michael Bula ably
assisted by his two assistant directors respectively Ophélie Royer and
Yuen Cho for MFT’s 56th MFT production.
Combining the classical elements of vaudeville, this Feydeau classic
brought home strong social messages of love, class, deceipt and
one-upmanship - such a drawcard for Melbourne audiences. 742 spectators
broke all recent MFT records.
The play was staged at Richmond Library Theatrette and the cast included
MFT’s best with Eddy Fatha as Alfred, Chloé Fournier as Philomèle, Aymeric
Fournier as Paturon, Clifford Edouard as Gigolet, Vanessa Peltier as
Pervenche and Namasté Gadbois as Giboulette in C’est une femme du monde
and Jean-François Dalvaen as Lucien, Cynthia Sica as Dora, Dominique
Gibert as Bretel and Franciska Toubale as Madame Prévallon in Les pavés de
l’ours.
The production team was honoured to have professional French set painter
Natalie Christophe, with Katherine Young for costumes, Mario Nicolosi for
lighting, Angèle Cadge as the inimitable Theatre Secretary and many
others.

OCTOBER - Le Triomphe
de l’Amour
by Marivaux
For the 57th production, the director Léna Pangalo chose to project
18th century France onto an Australian landscape (set in Venn
diagrams) where the inevitable question was “what happens when
opposites meet?”. The show was presented in the Richmond Library
Theatrette, well supported by video-assisted English surtitles.
The cast included many new faces and some “old” ones, such as
Jean-François Delvaen as Dimas and Michael Bula as Hermocrate with
the new being Nadège Dudicourt as Phocion/Léonide, Guillaume Lebrun
as Agis, Gabrièle Charotte as Hermidas/Corine, Pierre Lebeau as
Arlequin and Sabine Cotte as Léontine.
We were pleased to
welcome back the highly talented Karin McLean, responsible for the
set and doubly assisted by the production team of Yuen Cho as
assistant director, Pamela Weir as souffleur, Joanna de Keyser for
sound, Eddy Fatha for the image of the poster (as he did for the
Feydeau double), Mario Nicolosi for lighting, Browyn Gilson and Jane
Daly. Angèle Cadge worked in front of house and production
secretarial roles and Dominique Gibert completed the surtitles with
so many other helpers - Merci!
Nadège did a
wonderful job in publicising the show. We say goodbye to the
terrific Nadia Khosraviram as one of MFT’s best ticket secretaries.
Committee et al.
The 2002 committee comprised Michael Bula (Executive Director),
Angèle Cadge (Secretary), Henry-Claude Méra for part of the year and
then absent on leave, Jean-François Delvaen and Dominique Gibert
(returning to us from Canberra).
Wine bar
The wine bar proved so popular and profitable for MFT, that it has
become a permanent fixture. We shall continue to offer wine, soft
drinks, tea and coffee and assorted foods to enhance that unique
Melbourne French Theatre experience. |
